Investigates the virtual world; the digital divide; and the diffusion and adoption of ICT innovation. Current research includes studies of the impact of ICT policy on rural, regional and remote (R3) communities and geographically disadvantaged regions more generally and an investigation of the social impact of a proposed biometrically-secured European passport.
Draws on an extensive research foundation in requirements engineering and socio-technical analysis methodology, we are developing and trialling investigatory and evaluative research methods and support tools.
This theme has developed from projects in two distinct areas – educating requirements engineers and Just-in-time education in the Insurance Industry – to encompass general problems of creativity, e-Education, and balancing just-in-time against just-in-case education as they affect the Information Systems profession and the e-World.
The fundamental purpose of the CreWS group is to explore the nature of cooperative work where the objective is of a creative nature, rather than the execution of predefined procedures. Such work includes many activities where the cooperating individuals have to come to an agreement on a design or a solution to a problem that is frequently ill-defined. Example applications addressed to date have included military planning, requirements engineering and systems design.
